    Great, Dependable and Versatile Strings

Posted by Mike on 5th Mar 2019

Very easily the best string set at their price point by FAR. Some other (more expensive) sets may suit a particular violin slightly more depending on the qualities of that instrument... but these are literally the only strings I have ever tried which seem to suit every violin - regardless of the quality of that instrument. They make a massive improvement to most entry level instruments, and on some occasions I've actually preferred them to much more "premium" strings on higher level violins as well. Their comfortable feel and neutrality in terms of complexity and colour allows room for the instrument to "breathe" in a natural way, and for more advanced players the opportunity for colouring/shading of the sound in a way not possible for any other strings less than 2-3x the price. They also have some nice overtones, as well as decent response and projection. In addition they are generally quite durable, stable and warm sounding... which makes them an excellent choice for beginners (and a much better option than most steel strings) - but in my opinion they should not be classed as a "beginner" or "student" string in any way apart from their price.

    A big difference

Posted by Anne on 4th May 2017

I'm a fairly new violin player. I recently bought a second hand violin which had steel strings that were hard on my fingers and was looking for a replacement of reasonably priced strings. I bought the pirastro tonica violin strings and I'm pleased with the results. The strings are gentler on my fingers. The tone also has improved. It is has more warmth and richer in sound. The strings were easy to put on. For the first few days they do slip a bit and need to be retuned.

Sorry I cannot review the Tonica strings yet as they have not arrived. You sent them promptly but Cyclone Debbie decided to cut the roads down south so they have not arrived in Townsville yet.:)

    Perfect for my needs

Posted by Kevin on 3rd Mar 2016

As someone just starting out on learning the Violin as a mature student, I believe these are perfect for my needs. They have a good sound and last really well. Easy to put on and did not take too long to hold their tuning and only need the slightest adjustment at the start of my daily practice. Fantastic value for money. I have been telling my Violin playing friends. They are fit for the purpose I need them for and I am very happy.
