FORWARD by Lois Shepheard
I have had my students work through John Officer's Scales, Arpeggios,
Intonation book since it first appeared in print.
Over the years, John has revised and re-revised his document. This up-to-date
book is the product of an experienced musician and teacher with an analytic
mind and a desire to present only the best to students.
As John states in his introduction, scales are the basis of Western music.
Knowledge of key/scales/arpeggios/intonation is vital to the development of
musical understanding.
Using John's book, the student will proceed, step by step, from basic scales,
through more and more challenging finger patterns, to the advanced-level scale
format.
Over the years, I have found the added 'ear training' exercises super helpful to
the student who has difficulty remembering where the notes with accidentals lie
on the fingerboard - a vital skill in the art of reading music!
I recommend this book
