The Ballad of Red Fox
Here, the poet writes of the sufferings of a hunted animal, and in the music the composer has tried to portray the cruelty of the hunt. The yellow of the sun and the hot sky contrasts brutally with the red of the fox's brush, and of the blood which flows when he is killed by bullet and dagger.
Commissioned by the Canadian Children's Opera Chorus as a tribute to Suzanne Bradshaw.
